Tyler Wales is a performer and educator currently based in the Harrisburg, Pennsylvania area.
He holds a bachelor’s degree in Music from Kutztown University, a Master’s in Music from West Chester University, and a Doctorate of Musical Arts from Arizona State University.
Throughout his schooling, Tyler has performed with many different groups from new chamber music to symphony orchestras. He studied arduously with principal percussionists such as Ralph Sorrentino and Shaun Tilburg, and with respected chamber musicians and soloists like Michael Compitello, J.B. Smith, and Frank Kumor. He has also performed many times with the Phoenix Symphony, and was the principal percussionist at the ProMusica Symphony in Arizona.
Currently, Tyler serves as the Assistant Director of Bands at Shippensburg University, where he co-runs marching band, heads the Pep Band and Percussion Ensemble. Previously, he had built a large private lesson studio and served as the Assistant Percussion Director for Aledo ISD in Texas for 2 years. Along with lessons, Tyler also tought various orchestral and solo masterclasses, ran percussion classes at the middle school and high school levels, and was in charge of the drumline for the marching band.
Tyler is an active composer and arranger, having had his works premiered at the Pennsylvania Day of Percussion and by the West Chester University faculty. He also arranges music for marching band including both front ensemble and battery percussion. Tyler is currently taking on clients for percussion ensemble, solo, and marching band arranging/writing.
